Troubleshooting Steps
Currently, there are two major resolutions to issues relating to connecting to DePaulBlue wireless - Proper Installation of the VPN Software and Firewall Settings.
Troubleshooting Step 1 - Install Client
Follow the instructions provided at http://wireless.depaul.edu/howto/ step by step for your operating system to connect to the wireless network and install the client.
Troubleshooting Step 2 - Verify System is Up To Date
In order to connect, the Aventail VPN Software requires ALL system updates to be installed. Windows Users - Click Start, Programs, Windows Update and follow the steps provided. OSX Users - Click the Apple in the upper left corner, then Software Update.
Troubleshooting Step 3 - Check Firewall Settings
The Aventail VPN software requires adjustments to your firewall in order to allow incoming connections. Please add 140.192.2.1 to 140.192.2.254 to your "Trusted Network" to allow incoming communication to come from our servers.
Configuring Norton's Firewall
- From the Norton Internet Security screen click on Personal Firewall and then click on the Configure button.
- Click on the Networking tab.
- Under the Trusted tab click on the Add button.
- To permit access add in the range 140.192.2.1 to 140.192.2.254.
Configuring McAfee's Firewall
- From the Personal Firewall section of the McAfee Security Center window click on Utilities.
- Click on Trusted & Banned IPs.
- To permit access add in the range 140.192.2.1 to 140.192.2.254.
- Under Program Permissions, verify all programs read "Full Access". If not, set them to be so.
Configuring Windows Live OneCare
- In the One Care settings, add port 443 to 443 to the TCP outbound.
Troubleshooting Step 4 - MAC OS X 10.4 Client Downgrade to Resolve Disconnect or Crash After xx Minutes
If after ensuring your OS X 10.4 machine has all the latest updates you still have problems with the stability of the Aventail Connect agent, please try downgrading your client by following these steps.
- Open Macintosh HD and choose Applications
- Find the icon Aventail Connect and drag it to the trash
- Click on Macintosh HD again and choose Library
- Scroll down and choose Receipts
- Find the icon Aventail.Connect.pkg and drag it to the trash
- Follow the Installation Instructions for MAC OS X 10.4 under the HOW TO USE section
